Types And Characteristics Of Water Supply And Drainage Pipes

Whether it is agricultural irrigation or construction engineering, pipes are very important and necessary materials. They are often used to transport liquid media (water). They are mainly divided into water supply pipes, drainage pipes, rainwater pipes, etc. according to their uses.

Pipe fittings are molded parts used for extension, redirection, branching, diameter reduction, plugging, etc. when connecting pipes. According to the connection method, they can be divided into four categories: socket fittings, threaded fittings, flange fittings, and welded fittings.

Together, they form a complete water supply and drainage pipeline system.

Next, this post will introduce you to the types and characteristics of water supply and drainage pipes.

Type of pipe

Pipes can be divided into three categories according to their materials, namely metal pipes, plastic pipes, and composite pipes.

Among them, metal pipes mainly include steel pipes, iron pipes, and copper pipes. Plastic pipes mainly include PVC pipes, PE pipes, PP pipes, PPR pipes, PB pipes, ABS pipes, etc. Composite pipes mainly include steel plastic pipes, aluminum plastic pipes, copper plastic pipes, plastic composite pipes, etc.

The following is a diagram for your convenience:

Characteristics of commonly used water supply and drainage pipes

Cast iron pipe: It is cast by cast iron, with large conveying capacity and high strength, and is mostly used in municipal construction and other fields. Its disadvantage is that it is easy to rust, so anti-corrosion treatment will be used on the surface of cast iron pipe. In addition, its installation strength and workload are large.

Steel pipe: It has high strength and good corrosion resistance, but it is expensive and is mostly used in high-end buildings and high-rise buildings.

Metal plastic composite pipe: It combines the strength of metal and the toughness and low cost of plastic, and is mostly used in high-end buildings and high-rise buildings.

PPR pipe: Compared with traditional cast iron pipes, galvanized steel pipes, and other pipes, PPR pipes have excellent mechanical balance, energy saving and environmental protection, light weight, high strength, corrosion resistance, smooth inner wall without scaling, simple construction and maintenance, and long service life. It is currently a commonly used pipe for home decoration.

UPVC pipe: It has good chemical corrosion resistance, self-extinguishing, and flame retardant properties, good aging resistance, smooth inner wall, low inner wall surface tension, difficult to form scale, higher fluid conveying capacity than cast iron pipe, and less installation workload than steel pipe. It is mainly used in building drainage, municipal sewage, and rainwater drainage. However, UPVC pipe has problems such as low toughness, large linear expansion coefficient, and narrow operating temperature range.

PE pipe: Due to its high sanitary index, it is widely used in water supply and drainage pipelines and is a replacement product for UPVC drinking water pipes.
